Torres' single in 6th breaks Lugo's streak at 19

Gleyber Torres' single in the sixth inning broke Triston McKenzie's streak of 19 consecutive scoreless innings and helped the New York Yankees defeat the Cleveland Guardians 5-1 on Tuesday night.

McKenzie had not allowed a run since the first inning of his previous start against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 18.

The Yankees took an early lead when Anthony Rizzo hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, but McKenzie retired the next 16 batters he faced.

Torres broke up the streak with a single to center field with one out in the sixth inning.

The Yankees added two more runs in the inning on a double by Rizzo and a single by Aaron Judge.

The Guardians scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Amed Rosario.

The Yankees added two more runs in the eighth inning on a single by Torres and a sacrifice fly by Giancarlo Stanton.

Domingo Germán pitched six innings for the Yankees, allowing one run on four hits and striking out seven.

Lucas Luetge, Miguel Castro, and Aroldis Chapman combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief.

The Yankees improved to 51-22 with the win, while the Guardians fell to 41-32.
