Congress Acknowledges ISIS, Al Qaeda Still Threaten US Homeland

Lawmakers Receiving Briefings Expect Iranian Drones to be Next Threat

Al Qaeda, Sunni Extremists Still Plotting Attacks Against US Homeland

WASHINGTON - September 14, 2023; Lawmakers receiving intelligence briefings on America's adversaries, such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Al Qaeda, The United States Capitol Bombing, and Iranian support of terrorism, agree the top threats to the US homeland remain ISIS and Al Qaeda.

Senior lawmakers told reporters that the intelligence briefings they received this week confirm that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) and Al Qaeda remain the top terrorist threats to the U.S. homeland.

“ISIS and Al Qaeda are still very much alive and well, and they continue to plot attacks against the U.S. homeland,” said one lawmaker, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“The intelligence community is telling us that Iran is providing drones to Al-Qaeda, and that this is a new and emerging threat to the US homeland,” said another lawmaker.

The lawmakers said that the intelligence briefings they received also confirmed that Iran is continuing to support terrorist groups, including Hezbollah and Hamas.

"Iran is the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, and they continue to provide support to terrorist groups around the world," said one lawmaker.

"Iran is a major threat to the United States and to our allies in the Middle East," said another lawmaker.

The lawmakers said that Congress is working to address the threats posed by ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Iran.

"We are working to provide the intelligence community with the resources they need to track and disrupt terrorist threats," said one lawmaker.

"We are also working to strengthen our relationships with our allies in the Middle East to counter the threats posed by ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Iran," said another lawmaker.

The lawmakers said that the American people need to be aware of the threats posed by ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Iran.

"We need to be vigilant and we need to take steps to protect ourselves from these threats," said one lawmaker.

"We need to support our intelligence community and our law enforcement agencies as they work to keep us safe," said another lawmaker.
