Dutch Singer Klein Disqualified From Eurovision Over Song

Dutch singer Klein disqualified from Eurovision over song

Israel also ordered to change name of its entry

Joost Klein, who had been among the favorites to win the contest, was disqualified hours before the final on Saturday after it was revealed that his song, "You and Me," had been released before the September 1 deadline.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes Eurovision, said in a statement that Klein's disqualification was "due to a breach of the rules of the competition." The EBU said that Klein had "failed to respect the submission deadline" and that his song had been "made available to the public" before the deadline.

Klein said in a statement that he was "very disappointed" by the decision. He said that he had not been aware of the deadline and that he had only released the song to his fans after he had been selected to represent the Netherlands in Eurovision.

The EBU also ordered Israel to change the name of its song, "October Rain." The EBU said that the song's original title, "HaKol Lefanai," was too similar to the title of a song that had been released in 2015.

Israel has not yet announced what the new title of its song will be.
